About-NWFC

The National Weather Forecasting Centre (NWFC) is the central hub for weather forecasting and warning services in Pakistan. Based in Islamabad, the Centre operates under the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and functions 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to keep the nation informed and prepared for changing weather conditions.

Every day, a dedicated team of meteorologists closely monitors weather patterns across Pakistan and surrounding regions. Using data from weather satellites, Doppler radars, automatic weather stations, and numerical weather prediction models, NWFC delivers timely forecasts and early warnings. Whether it is fair weather, a monsoon spell, or a severe weather event, the Centre strives to ensure that accurate and reliable information reaches all stakeholders.

Our Mission

To provide accurate, timely, and reliable weather information that helps protect lives, property, and the environment, while supporting national development and day-to-day decision-making.

What We Do

At NWFC, we:

  • Monitor weather systems over Pakistan and neighboring regions

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and seasonal weather forecasts for cities and regions

  • Issue early warnings for heavy rainfall, floods, heatwaves, windstorms, and other severe weather events

  • Provide aviation weather forecasts for airports across the country

  • Share critical weather updates with disaster management authorities, the media, and the general public

  • Support research and innovation in weather forecasting, climate modeling, and satellite meteorology

Our Technology

NWFC employs a combination of advanced technology and scientific expertise. Data from Doppler weather radars, meteorological satellites, automatic weather stations, and global forecast models are integrated and analyzed using high-performance computing systems. This enables forecasters to predict weather patterns with improved accuracy and confidence.

Working Together

The Centre works in close coordination with national institutions and international partners, including the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and regional forecasting centers. These collaborations enhance forecasting capabilities and ensure alignment with international best practices in meteorology.

Our Commitment

Weather influences every aspect of life—from agriculture and aviation to disaster management and energy planning. NWFC remains committed to serving the people of Pakistan through reliable forecasts, clear communication, and continuous improvement. Our goal is simple: to help individuals, communities, and institutions make safer and smarter decisions—rain or shine.
