Dust-thunderstorm/rain predicted in upper parts with occasional gaps from 10th (evening) to 12th May

Met office predicted that a fresh westerly wave is likely to approach northwestern parts of the country on 10th May and likely to persist in upper parts till 12th May (night). Under the influence of this weather system:

Dust-thunderstorm/rain is expected in Kyber Pakhtunkhwa (Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Malakand, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Balakot, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Peshawar, Bajaur, Mohmand, Orakzai, Khyber, Kohat, Kurram, Hangu, Karak), Punjab/Islamabad (Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Khushab, Joharabad, Sargodha, Mianwali, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Jhang, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal) from 10th (evening) to 12th May with occasional gaps. While rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected in Gilgit Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Guanche, Shigar), Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) from 11th to 13th May with occasional gaps.

Dust-thunderstorm and rain are likely to bring relief from hot weather in upper parts while very hot weather condition is expected to continue in southern parts (south Punjab, Sindh, and parts of Baluchistan).

Possible Impacts and advises:

  • Windstorm and lightning may damage weak structures (electric poles, bill boards, solar panels etc.) during the forecast period.
  • Farmers are advised to manage their crops in accordance with the duststorm and rain, especially during wheat harvesting.
  • Landslides may occur in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during the forecast period.
  • Tourists and travelers are advised to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travelling during the forecast period.
