Rain-wind/thunderstorm (with isolated hailstorm) Predicted in the country from 24th (evening/night) to 30th March with occasional gaps

Met office predicted that a western disturbance is likely to approach southwestern parts of Balochistan on 24th (evening/night) and likely to intensify from 27th night and may persist till 31st March. Under the influence of this weather system:

  • Balochistan: Rain-wind/thunderstorm with few heavy falls (with isolated hailstorm) is expected in Panjgur, Turbat, Kech, Awaran, Makran Coast (Gawadar, Pasni, Ormara) Lasbella, Khuzdar, Kharan, Chaghi, Dalbandin, Kalat, Sibbi, Kohlu, Barkhan, Naseerabad, Quetta, Loralai, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Noushki, Harnai, Zhob, Kalat, Mastung from 24th  (evening) to 25th (night) and from 27th night to 29th (morning) with occasional gaps.
  • Kyber Pakhtunkhwa: Rain-wind/thunderstorm with few heavy falls (snowfall over the hills) is expected in (Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Malakand, Bunner, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Balakot, Haripur, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Kurram, Swabi, Charsadda, Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan) from 25th (evening/night) to 26th March (morning)  and widespread rain-wind/thunderstorm with isolated heavy falls (snowfall over the hills) from 28th to 30th March. Hailstorm is also likely at isolated places during the period.
  • Punjab/Islamabad:  Rain-wind/thunderstorm (with isolated hailstorm) is expected in Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Sargodha, Mianwali, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Khushab, Jhang, Noorpurthal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Pakpattan, Okara, Kasur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Kot Addu, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan from 25th to 26th March (morning) and from 28th (evening) to 30th March with occasional gaps.  
  • Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir:  Rain-wind/thunderstorm (snowfall over the hills) is expected in (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Guanche, Shigar), Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) from 25th (evening/night) to 26th March and from 28th to 30th March with occasional gaps. Hailstorm/ heavyfall is likely at isolated places in Kashmir during the period.
  • Sindh: Rain-wind/thunderstorm (with isolated hailstorm) is expected in Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Dadu, Kashmore, Jacobabad and Larkana on 25th/26th and from 28th & 29th March with occasional gaps.

Possible Impacts and advises:

  • Landslides may occur in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during the period.
  • Due to heavy rains Flash flood is expected in Balochistan from 25th to 28th March, while in local stream and nullahs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 28th to 30th March.
  • Windstorm/ hailstorm and lightning may damage weak structures (electric poles, bill boards, solar panels etc) during the forecast period.
  • Hailstorm/windstorm may damage standing crops in Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh.
  • Tourists and travellers are advised to remain extra cautious and avoid unnecessary travelling during the forecast period.
  • Farmers are advised to manage their crops according to the prevailing weather conditions.
  • Day time temperatures are likely to decrease during the forecast period.
