Latest advisory issued under MNSU, MultanMango: In view of the monsoon rains, pay special attention to keeping the orchard clean. Harvesting of early and mid-season varieties has concluded, and the harvesting of late-maturing varieties is currently underway. Since a significant portion of the 'White Chaunsa' mango variety is exported, apply a suitable fungicide to this variety to protect the fruit from post-harvest diseases. For varieties that have not yet received fertilizer, apply it during the next irrigation cycle. Additionally, continue to monitor the mango trees for new growth. Apply fertilizer to plants after necessary pruning once the fruit has been harvested. To control fruit flies, destroy any fallen fruit in the orchard; also, replace the Methyl Eugenol in pheromone traps every 10 to 12 days and ensure proper irrigation. To restore the health of diseased or weak plants, dig a trench beneath the tree canopy at a distance of 10 feet from the trunk. Ensure the use of mulch around new or young plants in the orchard and improve the ground level of the orchard floor.
Cotton: In areas experiencing rainfall, do not allow water to stagnate in the fields for extended periods; ensure proper drainage arrangements are in place. Conversely, in areas without rain, continue irrigating the cotton crop sown in May, while ensuring the appropriate application of water and fertilizer during the flowering and square-formation stages. Apply nitrogenous fertilizers to the May-sown crop based on its condition; specifically, ensure nitrogen application for crops showing stunted growth or those currently developing bolls. For nitrogen fertilization, apply one bag per acre of either Ammonium Sulphate or CAN (Gowara). Additionally, apply the recommended quantities of micronutrients to the May-sown cotton crop, and spray with a suitable biostimulant if fruit shedding occurs. If zinc and boron were not applied at the time of sowing, spray a solution containing 2 grams of zinc and 1 gram of boron per liter of water 90 days after germination. Pay special attention to weed eradication; control weeds using manual hoeing and ridging implements. In May-sown cotton crops where plants have grown tall, use a protective shield while spraying glyphosate to manage grassy and other weeds; however, consider the weather forecast before spraying. Conduct regular pest scouting in the field. To monitor for the pink bollworm, install one sex pheromone trap for every 5 acres of the cotton crop. To manage the pink bollworm, install 9 to 12 long-duration sex pheromone traps per acre. In the event of an infestation, pluck the rosette-shaped flowers ("rosette blooms") and destroy them by burying them in the ground. Avoid unnecessary spraying for pink bollworm control. In case of pest attacks, implement control measures in consultation with Agriculture Department staff, keeping the economic threshold of damage in mind. For early-sown cotton, schedule picking based on prevailing weather conditions. If the intention is to terminate the early crop early, discontinue irrigation and fertilizer application; if the crop is to be maintained for a longer period, continue irrigation.
Sugarcane: Considering weather conditions, maintain an irrigation interval of 15 to 20 days for the sugarcane crop as needed. Remove plants affected by disease in the ratoon crop. Install light traps for the physical control of sugarcane borers. Furthermore, follow the Agriculture Department's recommendations for controlling sugarcane borers.
