  • Early Warnings for All: PMD Engages Lower Chitral Communities on Impact-Based Forecasting Initiative

    Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) conducted its first round of consultation meetings from April 13 – 16, 2026 in Lower Chitral district as part of the Impact-Based Forecasting (IBF) Project. The initiative aimed to bring together key stakeholders to strengthen coordination and enhance preparedness against weather-related risks. Representatives from District Disaster Management authorities, Aga Khan Foundation, Rescue 1122, Agricultural Research Institute, Agricultural Extension Department, the Meteorological Office, and local communities actively participated in the discussions.

    The consultations were led by Mr. Muhammad Irfan Virk, Director of the National Weather Forecasting Centre, and Dr. Dildar Hussain Kazmi, Deputy Director, National Agromet Centre & Focal Person of the project, along with a representative from Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Africa and Asia (RIMES). The engagement focused on fostering collaboration among relevant institutions and communities to ensure the effective implementation and optimal functioning of the IBF project in lower Chitral.
