Pakistan January-March (JFM) 2026 Rainfall & Temperature Updates

JFM Rainfall: Slightly below average across the country

Pakistan witnessed 68.4 mm rainfall during winter (January to March 2026). It was slightly below- average with a negative anomaly of (-12%). This season, the regions Punjab with only 46.9mm (- 37%), Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) with 51.8 (-21%), Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) with 206.0mm (-16%) & Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) with 184.3mm (-14%) experienced below average rainfall. Whereas, Sindh with 17.1 (+32%), experienced above average & Balochistan with 61.8mm (+7%), observed near average rainfall. The Pakistan’s rainfall in March-2026 was slightly above average with 38.9mm (+24%). Whereas Sindh with 8.8mm (+128.9%) and Balochistan with 34.0mm (+57%) experienced largely above average rainfall in the month. An excessively large rain deficiency was observed in February 2026 for the country as a whole with only 6.1 mm (-77%) and ranked 7th direst (2.9 mm rainfall recorded in 1985). In January-2026, Pakistan with 23.3mm (+19%), observed an above average rainfall in Pakistan as a whole. Whereas Sindh with 6.0mm (+71.9%) and KP with 69.6mm (+53.3%) observed largely above average in the month.

 

JFM Temperature: Warmer-than-average across the country

 

Average Mean Tempeatures

The JFM season Area-Average mean temperature of Pakistan as whole with 16.7°C (+1.7) was significantly warmer and equalled the previous 1st warmest in the past 66 years (also 16.7°C in 2018). Similarly all the regions also exhibited well above average mean temperatures i.e. KP with 13.1°C (+2.2°C), AJK with 10.1°C (+2.1°C) & GB with 7.2°C (+2.2°C) all ranked the 1st warmest JFM area average mean temperatures (the records were 13.0°C in 2021, 10.0°C in 2010 & 7.1°C in 2004 respectively), Sindh with 21.7°C (+1.3°C) ranked 2nd highest  (the record is 22.4°C in 2018).  Punjab with 17.9°C (+1.7°C) & Balochistan with 17.1°C (+1.7°C) both ranked 4th warmest in the past 66 years (the records are 17.9°C in 1966 & 18.0°C in 2003 respectively) also recorded warmer than average mean temperatures.

 

Average Minimum Temperatures

The JFM season Area mean minimum temperature of Pakistan as a whole with 9.6°C (+1.9°C) was significantly warmer and ranked 1st warmest in past 66 years (the record was 9.1°C in 2022). All the regions also exhibited above average mean minimum temperatures i.e. Punjab with 10.9°C (+1.8°C), Balochistan with 9.8°C(+2.0°C) & KP with 6.4°C (+2.0°C) all ranked as the 1st warmest JFM area average mean minimum temperatures (the records were 10.8°C in 2022, 9.6°C in 2009 & 6.0°C in 2022 respectively), Sindh with 14.0°C (+1.9°C) & GB with 1.0°C (+1.8°C) both  ranked as 2nd warmest in the past 66 years (the records were 14.2°C in 2009 & 1.0°C in 2004 respectively), AJK observed 3.5°C(+1.4°C) & ranked 4th warmest (record 3.5°C in 2010).

 

Average Maximum Temperatures

The JFM season Area-Averag maximum temperatures of Pakistan as a whole with 23.7°C (+1.6°C) was too above average and ranked 5th warmest in past 66 years (the record was 24.6°C in 2018). All regions experienced above average maximum temperatures i.e. GB recorded 13.3°C (+2.5°C) ranking the 2nd warmest (the record is 13.7°C in 2018), AJK with 16.7°C (+2.7°C) observed 3rd highest (record 16.9°C in 2018). KP with 19.8°C(+2.2°C) ranked 4th highest (the record was 20.6° in 2021),  Balochistan recorded 24.3°C (+1.6°C) ranked 8th highest (record is 25.3°C in 2021), Punjab with 24.7°C (+1.5°C) (record is 25.7°C in 2018) observed above average maximum temperature, while Sindh with 29.4.°C (+0.8°C) also recorded above average maximum temperatures.
